BEST Renewable Energy are specialists in commercial solar PV (photovoltaic) panel installations. Businesses save money and reduce their carbon footprint by producing their own renewable energy through our bespoke solar PV systems.
Is switching to solar power right for your business? How will your business truly benefit from solar power?
How will your business benefit from switching to solar?
- Cost savings and return on investment
- A reduced carbon footprint
- Less reliant on the grid and therefore less likely to be disrupted by outages
- Brand enhancement to consumers and other businesses by demonstrating your commitment to green energy and the environment
- Opportunities to sell back to the National Grid (Smart Export Guarantee)
- Various funding options and tax relief available
- Low maintenance. Just keep the panels clean and free of debris
- Clean, low-cost power for at least 25 years.
How much will a solar PV installation cost your business?
There is no one-fits-all answer to this. The cost of your commercial solar power installation will depend on a range of factors including:
- The size and location of the roof used to house the PV panels
- The amount of energy you use and therefore need
- The number of panels in your installation
The cost of your PV installation will be approximately £1,000 per kilowatt (kWh) of electricity you use in a year. A medium-sized business in the UK uses, on average, between 30,000 and 50,000 kWh a year.
A PV system of around 30 panels with a 10 kWp (kilowatt peak) will usually cost around £16-17,000. A system with 200 panels and a 100 kWp will usually cost between £150-160,000.
Will you need planning permission for your commercial solar panels?
The installation of solar panels on commercial buildings and land may be considered ‘permitted development’. This means there would be no requirement for planning permission. However, if an installation is larger than 9m², planning permission is required. For installations within 9m², there are still some conditions. According to Planning Portal:
- No part of the installation should be higher than 4m.
- The installation should be at least 5m from the boundary of the property.
- Panels should not be installed within the boundary of a listed building or a scheduled monument.
- If the property is in designated land such as national parks, world heritage sites and conservation areas, “no part of the solar installation should be nearer to any highway bounding the grounds of the property than the part of the building that is nearest to that highway”.

How many commercial solar panels do you need for your building?
There are many factors that will influence the number of solar panels you need. These include what your business does; how your commercial building operates; your electricity consumption; the size of your roof; the location of the roof and the number of daylight hours it receives; and any anticipated changes in your current setup. BEST Renewable Energy can advise you on these factors.
We will plant a tree for every kW you buy
BEST Renewable Energy has partnered with the Woodland Trust, the UK’s largest woodland conservation charity. We plant a tree for every kW of solar PV installation installed, helping the Woodland Trust hit their target of planting 50 million trees by 2030. Planting trees in towns and cities helps absorb pollution while producing oxygen, providing fresh air that benefits us all.
